What are the requirements to obtain a simplified fire permit?

    Applicable for limited-scope projects per FSS 553.7932


    đź”§ Fire Sprinkler System Alterations

    This permit is valid for alterations involving:

    • 20 or fewer sprinklers with the same K-factor

    • Installation/replacement of equivalent system components in an existing commercial, residential, apartment, cooperative, or condominium building

    ⚠️ The project must not alter hazard classification or increase system coverage area.

    “Component” includes: Valves, sprinklers, escutcheons, hangers, compressors, or similar items (excluding pressure-regulating/reducing/control valves)

    📝 Plans:

    • Not required for qualifying projects

    • However, contractor must maintain plans, specifications, and permit on-site for inspector review

    • Include manufacturer's installation/testing instructions for component replacements



    🚨 Fire Alarm System Alterations

    This permit applies only to:

    • Alterations of 20 or fewer initiating/notification devices

    • Installation/replacement of a fire communicator on an existing fire alarm control panel

    📝 Plans:

    • Not required for qualifying projects

    • Contractor must maintain plans and permit at the worksite for inspection

    • For work over $5,000, documentation must be dated, signed, and sealed by a Florida-registered Professional Engineer

    📌 Projects not meeting FSS 553.7932 criteria will require a standard fire alarm system permit.
